US Congress approves 2010 IMF Quota and Governance Reform

On December 18, 2015, after a 5-year delay(!), the US Congress ratified the most important realignment of the IMF governance and structure since the countries of the former Soviet Union joined the organization in the early 1990s. The quota and governance reforms had been approved by the IMF's Board of Governors in December 2010 and the US remained the only holdout until today.

The general perception about the stabilization and adjustment programs of Greece since 2010 is based on a series of myths and inaccuracies, for which both politicians and the media are equally responsible. With the exception of overly optimistic accounts of the negotiating process, I do not believe that top decision-makers of the Syriza government consciously tried to mislead the public.
